Taylor Joramo, an eighth grader of Lakota High School and member of the Bison Bunch 4H Club, was awarded a belt buckle from the North Dakota Red Angus Association on Friday, December 8th, 2023.
The purpose of the County Buckle Program is to promote the Red Angus Breed and to encourage youth to become involved in the activities of the ND Red Angus Association and the ND Junior Red Angus Association. The ND Red Angus Association recognizes that the youth are the future of the breed and agriculture in North Dakota.
Criteria to winning a belt buckle are individuals must win Grand or Reserve Overall in Breeding or Market at achievement days/county fair; the winning animal must be at least 50% Red Angus and red in color; the exhibitor must own the animal prior to the fair/achievement day; the winners of the buckle must be verified by the county Extension agent; and the buckles will be awarded at the ND Red Angus Annual Banquet held in December.
Taylor Joramo’s comment on her award was, “I feel very honored to win this buckle. It’s a pretty awesome feeling to be recognized for all of my hard work put into my cow, Rose; to win Grand Champion at Achievement Days with her and now winning a Belt Buckle Award, makes me realize it was all worth it. I am hoping to grow my own herd of Red Angus cows and become a veterinarian. I dedicate this buckle to my cousin, Eric Bjorlie, the journey is hard, but it is all worth it in the end. And remember to eat more beef everyone!!!”.
