FFA Tree Planting

For a community project, that involves the youth, the Lakota FFA teamed up with the City of Lakota, as well as the 4th and 5th graders to plant trees. This was a 50/50 funded project by the Lakota FFA and the City of Lakota in which 46 trees were planted along the city roads. Each tree was about 12-16 feet in length and consisted of American Sentry Linden, Front Yard Linden, Autumn Radiance Maple, Prairie Expedition Elm, Northern Acclaim Honeylocust, St. Croix Elm, Autumn Blaze Maple, and Fall Fiesta Maple. We were very lucky that we had a nice day to do this as the forecast certainly showed otherwise. We would also like to thank Mayor Brad Hooey for the large amount of help with this project, the City workers, as well as the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office for doing extra patrol in the tree planting areas to help keep us safe.

Although the trees are in the ground, the work is not quite complete. You will see some students out there in the upcoming weeks raking, cleaning, and staking down the trees to protect them from the wind.

As FFA members we hope this project will pave the way for future tree projects in the City of Lakota. Plant a tree for your tomorrow!
