Junior high students from Lakota High School participated in our inaugural Regional Science Bowl, competing against teams from Michigan, Maryland, and Oklahoma. Although they did not secure a win, they demonstrated exceptional knowledge and teamwork throughout the event. We are incredibly proud of their performance and the dedication they showed. This experience has been invaluable, and we look forward to supporting them in future competitions as they continue to grow and excel in the field of science.

The STEM class (11/12th graders) has been learning electricity basics - amperage, wattage, and voltage. Today they had a hands-on lab with multimeters. They did readings on different resistors and had to use the resistor color chart to determine the ohms. They also tested a variety of old and new batteries to calculate how much of their voltage had been spent from use. Recently, they were required to take readings from their home electric meters, and in class we determined the approximate cost from the kilowatt/hours used. We then did an activity to estimate how much wattage various appliances in their homes consume and calculated the approximate cost of that too! Electricity unit is in full swing!
